OVERVIEW: Secondary infertility, the inability to conceive after a prior pregnancy. This condition is becoming more common now a day. Many factors may contribute to this like, Age, lifestyle stress, psychological and emotional health and diet, and even past pregnancies can contribute to this condition. All these factor may directly or indirectly impact ovaries, egg quality, and overall reproductive health.
In Ayurveda, Vandhyatha (infertility) is considered as a complication of Yoni vyapath and is also considered as Artavavaha srotodushti lakshana. Sencondary infertility can be correlated with sapraja vandhyatav.Sapraja vandhyatav means infertility after having a healthy progeny.
Most popular treatment for secondary infertility include fertility medications, intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF). In Ayurveda line of treatment Panchkarma is the main treatment for secondary infertility. WHAT IS SECONDARY INFERTILITY:
After one or more successful full term pregnancy and delivery of healthy progenies, couples sometime fail to conceive again. Inability of conceiving again after trying for 6 months to one year, is known as secondary infertility.
This means that couples who have previously conceived naturally are now experiencing difficulty getting pregnant again.
CAUSES:
There are variety of factors affecting both male and female fertility. These include age-related decline in egg quality, complications from previous pregnancies, infections, hormonal imbalances, diet and lifestyle. Male factors, such as low sperm count or poor sperm motility, can also contribute. Physical and mental stress, emotional health and psychological health of couples also plays important role in fertility.
AYURVEDA VIEW OF SECONDARY INFERTILITY:
In Ayurveda Secondary infertility can be correlated with sapraja vandhyatav.Sapraja vandhyatav means infertility after having a healthy progeny or the inability to conceive after a previous successful pregnancy. As per Ayurveda fertility depends on equilibrium of particular fundamental energies responsible for the pregnancy.
These are;
Kshetra — Healthy reproductive organs, particularly the uterus and fallopian tubes.
Ritu — proper timing, Regular and timely ovulation is important.
Ambu— adequate nutrition Adequate nutrition for both mother and fetus then only pregnancy progress.
Beeja — healthy reproductive material ie egg and sperm for conception.
Along with this healthy Dosha equilibrium is the key factor for the overall health. Imbalances in the Vata, Kapha, and sometimes Pitta Doshas are considered primary contributors.
MENEGMENT OR TREATMENT IN AYURVEDA:
According to Ayurveda, reproductive health is directly linked to the Dosha equilibrium Along with factor discussed above.
