Treatment for diabetes

What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a metabolic or chronic disorder of the human body in which the pancreas is not producing enough insulin, or sometimes the body is not capable of effectively using the insulin produced by the pancreas. It occurs when the pancreas is not producing enough insulin in the body, or, in many cases, when the body is not able to use the insulin properly.

There are two types of diabetes:

  • Type 1 diabetes is a condition when the pancreas is not producing enough insulin in the body.
  • Type 2 diabetes: In this condition, the body either does not produce insulin or becomes resistant to insulin.

 Symptoms of diabetes

The following are some of the most common symptoms of diabetes:

  • Blurry Vision
  • Slow Healing of Injuries (Cuts, Wounds, etc.)
  • Frequent Urination
  • Excessive Fatigue
  • Excessive thirst and a dry mouth
  • Some major health issues can be caused by diabetes:
  • Nerve weakness
  • Heart disease
  • Kidney failure
  • liver failure
What is panchakarma?

The Principles of Panchakarma:

The word panchakarma comes from the ancient language Sanskrit, which represents “five actions,” or, we can say, a combination of five treatments. Panchakarma is a process of detoxifying and cleansing the body from the inside out to balance the “doshas,” i.e., Vata, Pita, and Kapha. These doshas are responsible for some disorders in the human body, as per Ayurveda.

The Five Main Procedures of Panchakarma
  • Vamanam (therapeutic vomiting): This is typically not used for diabetes but may be helpful in specific cases under strict Ayurvedic supervision.
  • Virechana (therapeutic purgation): This process aims to cleanse the digestive system and may improve insulin sensitivity in some individuals.
  • Basti (medicated enemas): Different types of Basti are used to treat diabetes. Herbal enemas may support bowel regularity and potentially improve metabolic function.
  • Nasya (nasal drops): This therapy may help in managing blood sugar levels and alleviate associated symptoms like fatigue.
  • Abhyanga (oil massage): This promotes relaxation, improves circulation, and may enhance overall well-being, which can be beneficial for diabetes management.
How Panchakarma Helps Diabetes Patients

Detoxification and Metabolism

The basis of Panchakarma treatments is detoxification therapy. These therapies help to eliminate the toxins “ama” from the body, which improves metabolic function. Ayurveda says that toxins present in the body are the reason behind the improper working of the pancreas, which may lead to high sugar.

These therapies are performed by trained therapists so that the patient can get maximum benefits. After performing all the body cleansing and detoxification processes to eliminate toxins, the respective patient can feel the change and magic in his life.

Balancing the Doshas

As per Ayurveda, the imbalance of the element KAPHA in the body leads to diabetes. Kapha is the element that regulates and controls the fat and fluids in the body. Panchakarma offers different manual treatments by which we can balance these doshas, like vamana, virechana, etc.
